Fly fishing is one of the most popular and exciting ways to fish. With many different facets to the sport, more and more people are taking up the sport.
It can be done in either fresh or salt water and can be used to catch a variety of species. Rainbow trout, brown trout, salmon and grayling are the most popular UK fly fishing species, but other fesh and saltwater fish are also caught on the fly.
When fly fishing, artificial flies are cast using a rod of varying flexibility. In bait or spin fishing the weight of a sinker or lure determines the casting distance.
Conversely, when fly fishing the weight of the line carries the lure through the air as the fisherman uses different casting methods to replicate the actions of live insects.
